Caroline Chisholm was born in Northampton, England to a well-off farmer and, at age 22, married Captain Archibald Chisholm of Caroline Chisholm (/ ˈtʃɪzəm / CHIZ-əm; born Caroline Jones; 30 May 1808 – 25 March 1877) [1] was an English humanitarian known mostly for her support of immigrant female and family welfare in Australia. After marrying Captain Archibald Chisholm, she moved to Madras Caroline Chisholm was a British-born author and philanthropist, whose work with immigrant families, women and children ensured the successful colonization of Australia. In 1855 Caroline and Archibald handed over their store in Kyneton to their oldest sons. Although derived from a place near Hawick in southern Scotland, it later became established in the Highlands, where it was Gaelicised as Siosal.
